It has been a while since I updated this blog — last October, in fact! Since then, I have had my winter break in Lagos, November through to February. I have to say, it never disappoints. Anyway, I have been getting on with the boat building since I’ve been back and have managed to move things along a bit. I decided to give the frames a third coat of epoxy, as that seems to be the standard set by most builders. The only frame I have not applied epoxy to yet is the transom, as I want to leave the panel off so I can let the stringers through and then cut them.

I have built the jig/strongback using 6×2 for the base and 4×2 for the uprights. Lots of measuring and remeasuring to get everything right. So I now need to get the frames attached. I’ll do this when I get back from Wales in a week or so. Oh, and I am also getting the keel sorted. Well, I say I’m getting it sorted; it’s actually being sorted by another Mike who is also a 5.80 builder in the UK. A few of us got together and did a bit of a job lot. More on the keel in the next post.
