The thing is with plans, they are just that – plans – until they become reality. When I undertook this adventure I knew things would be difficult at some points and I also knew I would sit and doubt the whole logic of this undertaking. Well, let’s clear up that last point; there is no logic to this undertaking, so that one is easy to get over. However, the difficulties which arise from time to time will need to be addressed as each arises. There have been a few issues for sure, where to build was the biggest one thus far. This is essential to the whole project. I had a kind offer of space but when thought through it may not be the right place for now. I really do appreciate the offer though. The cost of hiring a place, that’s if one can be found, is quite prohibitive and depending on how long the build takes, this could add around five to eight thousand pounds to the build costs. There is also the distance to consider. Finding a place close to home is what is ideal, as that also cuts down travel costs and allows a more convenient approach to the build. Eventually, I have decided to build in the back garden. This also has its difficulties. The biggest being how to get it out at the end of the build. I have contacted crane hire companies and, first of all, it’s possible to get it out – phew – and secondly, the cost is far lower than I thought it would be and much, much cheaper than hiring a place. Btw, the front garden was a no-go in the end for various reasons.
I have started to build the base and hope to get this done in the next week or so. The picture above shows where I am at the moment. Other issues that I have found are that my shed and garage will also have to be utilized for storage and some workspace. This is something I hadn’t really thought about. These will need to be cleared and modified to some extent. I think I will use the shed and garage to epoxy coat as many parts as possible before bringing them together, as they will have a better temperature suitable for the task.
It truly is one small step at a time! Maybe not for mankind, but certainly for this kind of man. 😉
