I have started on the build of my 5.80. It has felt like the first couple of weeks have been all about standing and staring and feeling confused. The great support of having the blogs from previous builders has been great, and also the ability to fire off a question or four on the builders’ Facebook page has been invaluable. I found I was lacking in certain things which I then needed to buy and also my framing table was way too small so I needed to make that bigger. It ended up a sheet and a half of 2.4 x 1.2 18mm plywood top on some trestles. Anyway, now I think I have about all that I need and have started on the frames.

The first thing to do is to cut out the CNC pieces from the plywood sheets.

This leaves tabs on each piece and they need to be removed. I found that clamping them to a straight edge on the table and then sanding them down worked a treat.

I then looked at putting together some frames.

I started with frame E as it seems the least complicated and have dry fitted it with just screws and marked around the pieces to show where the epoxy needs to go.

Always good to get the angles correct 🙂

I think I’ll dry fit a few frames and then do the epoxy work rather than complete a frame at a time.

The above frame is frame C and I have just laid out the parts to see where everything goes before I start to work on it.

I will probably be building more than blogging for the next wee while but I will hopefully have a progress report by the end of this month.
