Ok, I think I should at least give you a little more detail other than ‘old man gone crazy!’ There is method behind the madness. The boat I’m looking to build is one that has been built before by non-boat builders and is being sailed around the world right now by people who have learned to sail especially for this event. There are blogs showing the building process, and many of them are very good. There is one that I particularly like – the blog is by Adam Waugh 170. It was his boat passing under the bridge on which I was standing as he sailed out of the Marina Lagos on his worldwide adventure that made me think, ‘Why not?’. He waved as he passed, and that’s all it took.

The boat is a ClassGlobe5.80, and here are the blogs on the boat building process:

The boat can be built from the plans only, if you have a very steady hand with a saw. Otherwise, the most chosen way to build the boat is to get a kit pre-cut (CNC kit). These are purchased from the sole supplier in each country, and for the UK that is:

The Mini Globe Race itself is in progress and can be followed through clicking on the following link. This will also provide all the information anyone needs to find out a little bit more about what I am hoping to achieve:
